Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (URSCA) refers to the process in which undergraduate students engage in inquiry, investigation, or creative endeavors that contribute to the generation of new knowledge or artistic expression. URSCA encompasses a broad range of disciplines, methodologies, and approaches, providing students with opportunities to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills by working closely with faculty or staff mentors. By participating in URSCA, students not only enhance their academic and professional development but also contribute to Concordia’s five areas of excellence: academic, artistic, athletic, holistic, and inclusive. Faculty and staff play a crucial role in fostering URSCA by mentoring students and working collaboratively as co-inquirers. Students may earn a PEAK through their URSCA experience.
The annual URSCA Symposium is also known as COSS – Celebration of Student Scholars. This event showcases the research and creative scholarship carried out by Concordia students with a faculty or staff mentor. Key features of the URSCA Symposium:
The URSCA Symposium is a campus-wide event for everyone.
Concordia students present their research and creative scholarship in poster/art sessions and concurrent sessions.
Classes do not meet during the URSCA Symposium.
Practices and rehearsals do not take place during the URSCA Symposium.
Faculty and staff play a vital role in mentoring student presenters, encouraging non-presenting students to attend, and attending themselves.
The event is held annually on one Wednesday in April.
