Lab Safety and Lab Access for Students

Log into Cobbernet before accessing AirSlate forms.

Courses: Lab/Field Safety, No Access Needed

Students taking laboratory courses must sign a Lab Safety Rules Agreement form. There are four versions of the form:  upper-division teacher ed., upper-division student ed. (for Biology, Neuroscience, and Environmental & Sustainability lab courses), field student (for Biology and Environmental & Sustainability field courses), and basic student (for Chemistry lab courses). These forms are housed on the Chemical Stockroom & Safety Cobbernet page.

Below is the process for students who are taking a lab or field course, but do not need access to rooms or spaces outside of class time.

  1. ITS will load the AirSlate Lab Safety Rules Agreement form link on Moodle pages for lab and field courses. Instructors using Teams or other software should include the link where appropriate and provide a link in their syllabi.

  2. Students use the link to complete the AirSlate form.

  3. Students receive a copy of their completed form from AirSlate, which they turn into their course instructor.

  4. The Chemical Safety Officer and the Office of Risk Management also receive a copy of the completed form.

Courses and Co-curriculars: Lab Safety and Access

Students taking a lab or field course, or those conducting research, creative scholarship, or doing work who need access to labs, studios, museum, greenhouse, animal rooms, etc. outside of class time must complete a form that combines the Lab Safety Rules Agreement with a Lab Access form.

Below is the process for students requiring access to lab or studio spaces outside of class hours.

  1. The student signs the AirSlate Research and Teaching Lab Access form. This form is also located on the Chemical Stockroom & Safety Cobbernet page in the Useful Documents section.

  2. The student receives a copy of the completed AirSlate form and forwards a copy to their instructor, mentor or supervisor.

  3. The course instructor or work/URSCA supervisor completes the AirSlate FOB Access Request Form, also located on the Facilities Management Cobbernet page.

  4. The FOB request is reviewed by Facilities Management and the Chemical Safety Officer and typically granted within 1-2 days (M-F).

Internal Funding Sources to Support URSCA and Integrative Learning

Students presenting their research or creative scholarship at professional conferences may request funding from the Office of URSCA to help support conference travel, registration, and lodging. Visit the URSCA Travel Grants page for more information.

Students attending conferences or special training workshops where they are not presenting their work do not fit the URSCA Travel Grant but may request funding from the Office of Community Engagement and Integrative Learning through the Cobbernet IL Funding Request Form.

The Business Office has links to several forms on Cobbernet that may be useful for your research and creative scholarship activities, such as the Reimbursement Report for expenses paid out of pocket, the Advance Request, and the Mileage Log. If you need to use one of these forms, fill out your information, then send it to research@cord.edu.
